Hello, I’m Julia and I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern. This means I am a degreed counselor who is provisionally licensed with the state of Florida and working toward full licensure. I attended Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida where I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology, then continued my education by pursuing my Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in trauma. Apart from my education in mental health I have been working professionally with families of children and adolescents with developmental needs as a behavior therapist (using Applied Behavior Analysis) for over six years. This experience allows me to not only work with my clients through a psychological one but a behavioral lens as well which can encourage change both on the inside and environmentally and behaviorally.
Anyone is susceptible to becoming stuck, lost, feeling numb, or not feeling congruent with who they are. You don’t have to stay there. By working together, we can hone in on your strengths to find solutions, reflect on your history to find healing, and set goals that further you to achieve restoration, access clarity, and embrace new knowledge that can equip you to embrace life more fully.
In addition to my education, I have further training in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (level 1) and the well-known and well-respected Gottman Method Couples Therapy approach (level 1 and 2). I also integrate Emotionally Focused Therapy into my work with couples. I look at patterns of interaction, negative cycles between partners, and emotional disconnection while we focus on creating a secure and safe bond between partners. I gently challenge when needed and I work from a strengths-based and positive perspective utilizing Attachment theory, Interpersonal Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioral approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
My professional experience includes working with individuals and couples with diverse concerns which include depression, anxiety, self-esteem, marital issues, grief, life transitions, and all forms of loss. I am a warm, compassionate, empathetic, and understanding person and I view therapy as a collaborative process that is grounded in a safe, accepting, and professional therapeutic partnership. Collaboration on your goals for counseling is important so that your voice is heard and that you feel empowered in your life. My goal as a counselor is to create a safe, accepting, and inclusive space so that I may support you in your journey towards self-discovery, growth, and healing.
